A Nautical Boy’s Room

There is no denying that our kid’s rooms are our reader’s favourites! We receive so many questions asking about one detail or another. Liam’s room has been so loved on, which I’m not surprised as it’s one of my favourite rooms in our last house too. The nautical boyish theme is subtle yet holds such a fun statement to the room. The best part was that Liam loved his room as well!

The wallpaper was one of the first things I chose for this room. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be too busy as there is lots going on with the feathered pattern and the fact that I wanted to wallpaper the entire room. Because of my hesitation I decided to add a 1/3 wainscotting detail, giving it a bit of breathing room and also adding to the beachy nautical feel I was going for. Next step was to add texture and warmth, rattan details and wood were a definite must. I stuck with blues (window seat, wallpaper, pillows and decor), grays (bedding), natural browns though the rattans (headboard), woods (nightstand and picture frame) and grasses (roman shade) filled in with classic whites in bedding and paint. The room size was roughly 11×12 1/2 feet.

The built-in shelves you see were actually afterthoughts once we seen it framed. We found the bench had nothing to terminate into so we had our framers and the wall, then our finishers added the shelves and final details. It looks as if it was planned all along.

I love finishing the theme in the room with the accessories, toys and decor pieces which includes cute pillows too!

Liam and Lilly’s room joined through with a Jack & Jill bathroom. I wanted to keep it a neutral theme, but you can see that it also has that touch of nautical to it, especially thanks to the mirror. The pedestal sinks are Kohler and the faucets are by Delta in polished nickel. The mirrors can be found at Serena & Lilly- they come in two sizes.
