A Perfect Laundry Space + GE Giveaway
Let’s talk about laundry! If you’re anything like me, you have a lot of it. Like, a lot. I think it may be one of the most polarizing household chore: People either love it or hate it!
I’m a firm believer in creating beautiful, functional laundry rooms. I’ve shared a bit about my laundry/mudroom (here) in the past and heard lots about how you wish you had an organized laundry room. Good news: You can. No matter whether you have a spacious room or a tiny closet, you can turn your laundry space into a space you love and enjoy using.
My first tip for creating a fresh, comfortable laundry room? Get organized! I love using baskets, crates and mason jars to store everything from dryer balls to stain removers and detergent. Find a spot or “home” for everything. You could consider installing floating shelves to keep everything within reach or use baskets to make sure all your products stay put in your cupboards. Install hooks, a rod or rack to make air drying easy. Add what you need to make your space functional without increasing clutter.
Second, make your space look pretty! Frame and hang/lean a cute print. Tuck clothespins into a jar and display it on a shelf. Splurge on a cute garbage can with a lid to keep everything contained. Consider transferring your powdered detergent into a tin that fits with your decor if you don’t like the container it comes in. Invest in a laundry basket (or two) with wheels and dividers to make sorting a breeze. No matter the size of your space, add something you love. Because, when you have to throw a load of wet bedsheets into the wash in the middle of the night — any parents with me? — you’ll want something to make you smile.

It’s so simple, but I often see people not do it. Shake out wet clothing before you toss it in the dryer. It will dry faster and with little or no wrinkles. Plus, that snapping sound of a wet pillow case or towel is a great was to release any pent up stress 🙂
Place a dry fluffy towel into the dryer with your wet clothes for the first 15 – 20 minutes of the drying cycle; then remove. Reduces the drying time and uses less energy.
My tip is to use dryer balls to dry laundry quicker.
My tip is as soon as you get a stain to spray with stain remover even if you are not planning to wash it right away. Helps to keep the stain from setting in.
Mesh bags for delicates and dryer balls! With three young boys I would die for a new washer and dryer!
My favorite tip is don’t let your teen son do his own laundry, my washer broke when he decided to use it for the first time and I’ve been having to go to the laundry matt twice a week, 3 kids make a lot of dirty laundry. I’d absolutely Love to win a washing machine, oh boy this would be a life saver. Thank you for the opportunity.
Before I wash clothes for the first time I wash them in half a cup of vinegar to preserve the intensity of the colours. To reduce pilling and abrasion I turn clothes inside-out when I wash. I separate the colour categories to keep the colours at their best. And unless there is real dirt on the clothes I use the quick cycle. I also have my children sort the socks. Thank you hand happy Laundry Day to you.
Use cold water to wash your clothes….
Every other week I put vinegar in a cycle through the washer to keep the washer clean and fresh.
I’ve got a few! Turn clothes inside out to reduce fabric wear. Use the best laundry detergent brand to get stains out. Add a little vinegar to your whites. Remove clothes promptly from the dryer for less wrinkling. Oh yeah, check pockets for Kleenex, keys & other forgotten items!! And color sort prior to washing! Washing clothes well is a dying art!! lol
Separate the colours from the whites.

For those of us in the baby + toddler phase of parenting, do one load of laundry a night after the kids are in bed…that way it doesn’t pile up and get too overwhelming!
I use vinegar to freshen up clothes that are “forgotten” in the washer a bit too long! Plus, I turn all clothing inside out to preserve them longer
I use tooth paste on those pesky stains my daughter gets at her kindergarden class 🙂
To prevent color fading, toss your clothes in the wash with a teaspoon of salt.
Wool dryer balls are a must! They help dry clothes more quickly than usual as well as soften fabrics in the dryer.
I toss my little girls tutus in the washer, just use a delicate garments bag.
Use baking soda to wash your whites instead of bleach.
Wash with cold water to reduce wear and tear on your clothes.
