His & Hers Office That Just Works

Our joint office has received quite the attention from all of you guys AND all those pinning over on Pinterest ever since I posted it in our Home Tour blog post. We receive so many questions specific to the details of our office that I thought it was about time to share. We took a long time with designing and building out the office, finishing it over a year after we moved in.  We weren’t too sure how to divide the space into separate work spaces for both Troy and I. Do we do two desks against a wall? Two desks in the middle of the room? Or maybe just go with one tradition desk in the centre of the room? We tried green-taping out our options on the ground and just couldn’t decide on a configuration that worked.

One thing I did know was that I wanted a wall of built-in shelves, that would work great for storage, books and decor accents. Where is our printer you might ask? Yup, you guessed it- tucked in away in one of the bottom cupboards. When we started to design the built-in shelving we thought, “Why not build two walls of shelves with a space in the middle perfect for a desk space for each of us?”.  A concept that we thought could both work functionally and aesthetically. Allowing us to have our own space and reflection of personal style when it came to the decor too.

I absolutely love the way it turned out. We worked in here a lot. Had lots of late night/ date/ work nights. It was a fun space to work and surprisigly spacious for the both of us. To add a little “His vs. Hers”, theme I decide to frame two black and white photos of Roger Moore and Bridget Bardot for above each of our desk spaces. I’m not going to lie, I was hesitant. But I just loved how it personalized this office space making it unique too.

I’ve listed all the sources below, including paint color. Please leave a comment if you have any other questions about our office.
