When Zespri Kiwifruit approached us about a possible partnership (a.k.a.  girls’ brunch!!), I was thrilled! We’ve been eating Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit for a long time. Troy discovered them at a local store, and they quickly became a favourite easy-to-eat snack around our house. The SunGold kiwifruit is sweeter than a green kiwifruit, making them great for my kids. We eat them often so this partnership felt like a great fit!

We brainstormed a variety of fun event ideas to share how versatile Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit can be. After a few conversations, we settled on the idea of a laid-back mom’s lunch. I invited a small group of mamas – and their kids! – over for a couple hours on a Friday afternoon.

Instead of pulling these mamas away from their kids, I figured I’d save them the worry of finding a sitter and give them an opportunity to create summer memories by hosting a mini kids’ summer camp in our backyard with games, arts & crafts, fun kiwifruit facts, and more! There were 23 kids between the ages of 1 and 13 running around. It was… busy! (I give huge props to the sweet girls watching all the kids. They were great!)

And while the kids played, all of the moms congregated on our upper deck to enjoy a delicious kiwifruit-filled lunch made by our very own food editor, Erin. She crafted an amazing, nutritious meal for the moms (and kids), demonstrating how easy it is to incorporate Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit in both sweet and savoury dishes.

The kids’ menu consisted of kiwifruit chia pudding, whole-wheat crepes with sliced kiwifruit, and a coconut milk kiwifruit popsicle. And those cookies on a stick. How cute, right?

For the mamas, Erin pulled together one of my favourite foods – fish tacos! – topped with an amazing (and quick!) kiwifruit salsa. A seasonal summer salad with kiwifruit vinaigrette was served with the tacos. For dessert, we enjoyed Pavlova with sliced SunGolds along with cute kiwifruit-themed macaroons, cookies and cake from The Cake Mama. All in all, it was delicious!

Before this partnership, I didn’t consider how I could enjoy kiwifruit, especially SunGold Kiwifruit, in so many different ways. And how nutritious it is! Did you know kiwifruit is one of the most nutritious fruits because of its rich combination of fibre, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals? Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit is an especially excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of Vitamin E. It’s also high in potassium and has a low glycemic index. I feel even more confident that it’s an excellent snack for my growing kids and my busy self.

All in all, this event was such a fun, relaxed way to get together with friends for an afternoon. And a great way to introduce SunGold Kiwifruit to the moms and kids!
